Do you work with young people who don’t usually put themselves forward?
Young people who:
- don’t sign up to consultations, forums, or events.
- are unsure of “opportunities” that feel too formal, political, outside of their org or not for them.
- have plenty to say about the world around them, but not in settings where people outside of their org/club are listening.
- Or those who have plenty to say but haven’t had the opportunity beyond the youth org to have their voice heard yet.
If that sounds familiar, this invitation is for you.
This residential is designed to support the engagement of young people in youth participation by working through their existing relationships with youth workers.
The residential will bring a small number of youth workers and small groups of young people aged 16yrs+ who they already work with to a Dublin-based (but open everyone nationwide) residential with the Young Voices team. The focus is on creating the time, space, and safety needed for young people who do not typically opt into youth events, consultations, or participation opportunities to explore issues that affect their lives and to engage at their own pace.
The residential prioritises relationship-building, trust, and voluntary participation, rather than performance or representation, and aims to offer a positive first experience of youth participation that feels accessible, respectful, and meaningful.
The residential is part of the Young Voices EU Youth Dialogue process, the largest youth participation initiative in Europe so this will be the first step to many opportunities at a local, national and European level for the youth workers and young people to engage in.
